Newport Historical SocietyMost recently, the Historical Society was the driving force behind the town's decision to rebuild and replicate the Corbin Covered Bridge, built circa 1835 and destroyed by arson in 1993. It was rebuilt (fully replicated) in 1994 by nationally known covered bridge builder and master craftsman Arnold Graton & Associates of Ashland, New Hampshire. Since the return of the bridge over the Sugar River in October of 1994, an event witnessed by thousands, the Newport Historical Society has sponsored an annual covered bridge festival in September of each year, celebrating the return of the Corbin Covered Bridge and highlighting the craftsmanship of the 1800's.
